A Site For Your Eyes

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I’m not even entirely certain how I stumbled upon the gay site, After Elton, but I am ever so glad that I did.   Wait, now I remember.  For whatever (horny) reason, I had loaded 007 stud Daniel Craig into the trusty Google engine and that’s what eventually lead me to After Elton.  Sometimes it doesn’t matter how you get to a place just so as long as you do; this would be one of those instances.

I’m a sucker for an attractive man—aren’t we all?—and when there are potentially 100 of them for me to look at and fantasize about, then bring it on!  After Elton has created what I believe to be its first ever Hot 100 List and the list hits its target more often than not, I’m happy to report.

The Top 5 looks like this:

  1. Jake Gyllenhaal  (Brokeback Mountain)
  2. Chris Evans   (Fantastic Four)
  3. Daniel Craig (Casino Royale)
  4. Gale Harold (Queer As Folk – U.S. version)
  5. Taye Diggs (Rent)

See what I mean?  A nice start to a fascinating and yummy list; although I was a little surprised to find Gale Harold still riding high on a chart like this since Queer As Folk ended back in 2005.  Even more surprising was that three of his cast mates also appear on this list at #14, #34 and #86.  (To see which actors I’m referring to, you’ll have to check out After Elton for yourself.)
What’s really refreshing about this Hot 100 List is how the usual suspects (George Clooney or Johnny Depp for example) prominently featured on many other “hot” lists appear at After Elton’s list but in the lower ranks of it.  Instead, we’ve got legitimate and often overlooked hotties like Christian Bale (#11), Christopher Meloni (#13) and my latest object of lust (see Sir Randy’s July 24 blog entry), Patrick Wilson (#15) ranking highly on the chart.

So if you’re in the mood for some delicious G-rated eye candy of the celebrity kind, After Elton’s Hot 100 List may be able to take care of that particular craving.  You may be surprised by who you find on the list but mostly you’ll be delighted.  And maybe even aroused.

Little Children’s Big Stud

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Every once in a while I watch a film for one reason and end up enjoying it for a unexpectedly different one altogether.  Normally when this happens, there’s a man to blame.

The latest example of this happening involves the film, Little Children.  Released in 2006, it was a film that I had read some very good reviews for, and even when it was nominated for a few Oscars—including one for 5 time Academy Award nominee, the always wonderful Kate Winslet–I somehow managed to not get my ass into a theater to see it.  Shame on me.

So when I was recently at the DVD store and noticed this title on the shelf, I jumped at the opportunity to rent it.  Little (no pun intended) did I know at the time that I would develop an immediate (but always harmless) crush on the film’s lead actor, super yummy-delicious Patrick Wilson (who plays Brad).  Man is this guy hot!  And with the kind of smile that if on the receiving end of, would cause anyone to lose their ability to form even the simplest of sentences.

Almost immediately seeing him on screen I was reminded of my first cinematic exposure to the 34 year-old Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor, when I rented the phenomenal Angels in America a few years back.  In that HBO film/mini-series, he portrayed Joe Pitt, a Mormon lawyer struggling with (and then thankfully surrendering to) his desire for men.  He gave a great performance and I’m sure every gay man was on the edge of his seat waiting for Patrick’s character to get fully in touch with his homo self.

In Little Children his character is 100% straight, but there are plenty of scenes for his gay fans to get hot and bothered over.  While watching him poolside with his shirt off gets the party started it’s his sex scenes in the laundry room with lucky Kate that you’ll be tempted to replay over and over.  Such an athletic body, such a beautifully muscular ass, oh my…oh…oh…oh yeah, the film is extremely well made, too, so check it (and him) out when you can.

For many reasons, the talented Patrick Wilson in one actor I’ll be keeping an eye on in the future.  Have a look and you’ll see what I mean.

Hairspray Holds Up

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

I caught the North American premiere screening of the film musical Hairspray last Monday night in Toronto (at the wonderful Elgin Theater) and must say that I was pleasantly surprised.  And if the rest of the audience’s reaction to the movie is any indication, this adaptation of the Broadway play–which itself was adapted to the stage from John Waters’ 1988 film of the same name–should be a huge summertime hit.  Dare I say that it may just end up being this generation’s Grease?

Needless to say, the cast is an impressive mix of veterans and relative newcomers:  John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, James Marsden, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley and Nikki Blonsky.

I’m pretty certain that Travolta will be receive a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his role as Edna Turnblad (and could very well take home the award, too, considering he’s never won before and has been around now for a very long time).  And that’s a prediction coming from someone who took a while to embrace the actor’s performance in this film; despite the fact that the rest of the audience surrendered their love and laughter to him almost immediately.  Who said my days of playing hard to get were over?

Michelle Pfeiffer is wonderful as the film’s villainess, Velma Von Tussle; I just love it when she plays evil.  More, please!  Christopher Walken has fun with his role, Queen Latifah’s voice has never sounded better—again, look for an Oscar nomination, although Pfeiffer is equally deserving—and speaking of voices, who knew that cutie James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops of the X-Men flicks) could sing and dance?

One of the reasons I think this film will do great boxoffice has to do with the casting of Zac Efron.  Thanks to the phenomenal success of High School Musical, this fresh-faced actor is beyond popular with tween and teen girls at the moment and will have the gals (and young fags) returning to the movie theaters time and time again to watch his moves on screen.  (Note to Zac, who attended the premiere:  If you know you’re going to appear on stage prior to the film’s screening, for god’s sake either take your gum out of your mouth or at least stop chewing it until you’ve returned to your seat.  Not an attractive sight, I have to say.)

Nikki Blonsky, who was selected from something like 10,000 others auditioning for the pivotal role of Tracy Turnblad, has energy to spare and easily holds her own on screen with the Hollywood heavy-hitters.  And don’t get me wrong, while she definitely has a strong singing voice I realized after a couple of songs that it also reminded me of every actress whose ever appeared on Broadway in “Annie”.  A little too enthusiastic sounding at times, if you know what I mean.

And speaking of singing voices, Elijah Kelley’s is unbelievably awesome.  And he’s pretty easy on the eyes, too.

Hairspray will be released on July 20.  Word of mouth alone should prevent its cinematic run from being a case of Hair today, gone tomorrow.  And if the opening night crowd is any indication, this is THE film of the summer for gay men to bring their favorite fag hag to.

The middle of summer isn’t generally the time of year one thinks of as being awards season, but that doesn’t mean it can’t at least be ripe with nominations.  It’s even more appealing if you can take part in the process.  And better still if what you’re taking part in involves stiff cocks, tops & bottoms, and lots of sucking and fucking.
