The Wild, Wild Worst
Sunday, January 28th, 2007Not too surprisingly, given my love of film I’m stoked about the upcoming Oscar awards taking place February 27. Nominations were recently announced and predicting winners is not going to be easy this year. Stay tuned for mine. I wonder how they’ll compare to yours?
Â
Perhaps less difficult to predict will be the “winners†of that other “honor†bestowed upon films around this time of the year, the Golden Raspberry Awards…better know as the Razzies. February 24 is the big day for those awards.Â
Â
Bad film is to be celebrated. Accordingly, curiosity got the best (worst?) of me and (once I was able to tear myself away from the Falcon Studios site) I checked out the list of nominees in order to get an idea of how stiff the competition was where the best of the worst cinema from 2006 is concerned. I have to say, I was thrilled to discover that out of all of the categories and films nominated, I had only seen one—and that was Superman Returns, for which Kate Bosworth received a nod for her supporting role as Lois Lane.
Â
It wasn’t a huge shock to discover that the majority of nominated films and performances was a cinematic dog’s breakfast—or perhaps one more suited for turkey—based on reviews and in most cases, box office.
Â
So without further a do—and proudly without having seen pretty much all of the films—here are my predictions for this year’s Razzies:
Â
Worst Picture – Basic Instinct 2
Worst Actor – Tim Allen (The Santa Clause 3; Shaggy Dog; AND Zoom)
Worst Actress – Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct 2)
Worst Supporting Actor – David Thewlis (Basic Instinct 2)
Worst Supporting Actress – Carmen Electra (Date Move AND Scary Movie 4)
Worst Screen Couple – Hilary & Haylie Duff (Material Girls)
Worst Remake or Rip-off – Little Man (remember the Bugs Bunny cartoon “Baby Buggy Bunny?â€)
Worst Prequel or Sequel – Basic Instinct 2
Worst Director – Michael Caton-Jones (Basic Instinct 2)
Â
Good luck to all the nominees.Â
Â
Cheers!
